Bacon

As members of Ars Technica, we all know that everyone simply loves bacon. But how do you cook it, you ask?

  1. Start with a cold non-stick or oiled pan. Add the bacon and cook over medium heat.
  2. Turn bacon as frequently as it curls.
  3. Remove bacon when the following is met, depending on what you like in bacon:
    1. Translucence disappears: bacon will be moist and pliable, slightly undercooked
    2. White disappears: bacon will be slightly crisped and somewhat moist
    3. Pink disappears: bacon will be crisp, slightly dry
    4. Evenly browned: bacon will be slightly burnt and very dry; similar to bacon bits
  4. Move to a nearby plate covered with a paper towel.

Another easy way to prepare bacon is, of course, to buy the microwaveable kind. If you decide to go this route, simply follow the directions on the package.
