Bacon
From Ars Cookbook
As members of Ars Technica, we all know that everyone simply loves bacon. But how do you cook it, you ask?
- Start with a cold non-stick or oiled pan. Add the bacon and cook over medium heat.
- Turn bacon as frequently as it curls.
- Remove bacon when the following is met, depending on what you like in bacon:
- Translucence disappears: bacon will be moist and pliable, slightly undercooked
- White disappears: bacon will be slightly crisped and somewhat moist
- Pink disappears: bacon will be crisp, slightly dry
- Evenly browned: bacon will be slightly burnt and very dry; similar to bacon bits
- Move to a nearby plate covered with a paper towel.
Another easy way to prepare bacon is, of course, to buy the microwaveable kind. If you decide to go this route, simply follow the directions on the package.
