Ingredients

  • 2 package thin sliced steak, 8 sheets.
  • 1 package fresh mushrooms, white.
  • 1 cup shredded Parmesan cheese
  • 1/2 small onion, white or yellow.
  • 2 cans beef gravy, cheap stuff is fine.
  • 4 Tbsp. minced garlic, please use the wet stuff or fresh.
  • 1 tsp each: Majoram, Basil, Clove, Salt, Pepper, Thyme.
  • 1 cup rice, preferable mixed wild.
  • 1 loaf french/sourdough bread. Prefer something with flavor like garlic or basil, but the sourdough is cheap.
  • 2 cups beef broth* Optional, beef bullion can also be used.

Note: Fresh spices are OK but remember that you need twice as much fresh as dried. Garlic powder will not taste right, you need the liquid. Grated parmesan cheese will not melt correctly and your stuffing will be very dry.

Directions

Filling

  1. Take out 2 whole mushrooms, or the equivalent if you bought sliced, and place aside.
  2. Chop the 1/2 onion and mushrooms and place in a mixing bowl.
  3. Add the egg, 2Tbsp of garlic, and 1/4 cup of the parmesan. Mix evenly.

Beef

Do these 1 at a time, it makes life easier.

  1. Place 1 sheet steak on the cutting board and using a roller or the flat of your chef's knife, squish it out flatter and thin. BE CAREFUL! You don't want to tear the meat at all.
  2. Place a pinch of the parmesan along one long edge.
  3. Place about 4Tbsp. of the filling in a line along the other edge.
  4. Roll like a burrito, make sure to fold in the ends. Give the roll a gentle squish to help hold it together and place in a glass baking pan.

Repeat until all the beef and filling is gone, you should get 8 all total.

Gravy

  1. Pour the 2 cans of gravy into the same mixing bowl.
  2. Add spices and the rest of the garlic to the gravy and mix well.
  3. Pour the gravy over the beef and spread to coat evenly.
  4. Remember those 2 mushrooms you set aside? Slice anything you haven't munched on and garnish the pan.
  5. Sprinkle the last of the cheese evenly.
  6. Cover and place in a 425 degree oven.

Rice

  1. Bring 2 cups of water/broth to a boil.
  2. Add in 1 cup of rice and stir. Bring rice back to a boil and cover.
  3. Reduce heat and let sit for 20 minutes.
  4. After 20 minutes, remove lid and fluff with a fork.
  5. Pull the beef out of the oven, it's done.

Presentation

Serve 2 of the steaks over a bed of rice. Slice the bread thick and serve on plate side. Garnish the bread, rice, and beef with gravy. Serve, eat, clean up, make out.  :)

Notes

If you decide to serve with wine, use a mild red wine. The dish has a lot of dark strong flavor so make your wine choice accordingly.
