Un-French Fries
From Ars Cookbook
Want French Fries, but afraid to fry them on the stove (or lacking the resources to fry them in the first place)? Fear not, this recipe doesn't actually fry the fries, but they come out tasting great, and significantly healthier. They can also be made in large or small batches to satisfy a snack craving.
Ingredients
- 3 large potatoes
- 1 tbsp. olive or vegetable oil
- 1/4 tsp. salt
- 1/4 tsp. pepper
- 1/4 tsp. of whatever flavoring suits you*
- If desired, 2 tbsp. grated cheese
*Note: the flavoring amount is for individual spices; combination flavoring powder works great, too, but a greater amount is a good idea. Cheese, if desired, should also be added in a larger quantity.
Preparation
- Preheat the oven to 450 degrees.
- Cut the potatoes into desired fry shapes; small wedges work best.
- Toss potatoes with oil, salt, pepper, and flavoring (and cheese, if desired).
- Lay potatoes flat on a non-stick or greased cookie sheet.
- Cook in the oven for 25 minutes, or until brown.
